Selous Game Reserve is the largest game reserve in Africa, covering an area of 50.000 km². The reserve is located in the south of Tanzania.
The attractions of this reserve are very diverse. From the varying vegetation zones, ranging from dense thickets to open wooded grasslands, to walking safaris and boat safaris along the Rufiji River with its many lakes that are abound with hippos and one of the greatest concentrations of crocodiles. Other wild animals that are found in the reserve are elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards and many species of antelopes and birds. One of the main attractions is the possible sighting of hunting dogs, which have become rare in the northern circuit.
The northern part of Selous Game Reserve is most accessible for tourists. The different safari activities, by jeep, boat or by foot, make this game reserve unique and definitely worth a visit!
Selous Game Reserve was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.
