Lake Nakuru National Park is one of the most beautiful bird sanctuaries in the world. In 1961 it was declared as the first bird sanctuary in East Africa. Lake Nakuru is known for millions of flamingos, coloring the shores of the lake pink. However, due to high water levels the flamingos are more and more migrating to the nearby lakes such as Lake Bogoria and Lake Elementaita.
Next to more than 400 bird species there are many wild animals living around the lake. The rare Rothschild giraffe as well as the rhino enjoy special protection as the park is fenced, which is exceptional in Kenya. The chance to see rhinos is the biggest in Lake Nakuru National Park.Additionally there are many leopards, waterbucks, buffalos, impalas and hippos living in the area.
